DORIAN GRAY

In Oscar Wilde’s 1890 novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, the title character is an aristocratic man whose portrait is painted by an artist infatuated with his beauty. This artist introduces him to the hedonistic Lord Henry. Dorian is enthralled by Lord Henry and his decadent lifestyle, so he sells his soul for eternal youth. He lives a long life as a libertine, but the portrait in the attic shows all the physical effects of Dorian's indiscretions and sins. Dorian may be a selfish Lothario, but he is attractive enough to inspire great works of art and bend most to his will. Imagine what he would say to seduce someone in a dark opium den?
