Penumbra Publishing is an independent publisher of nonfiction, poetry, essays, multilingual works, experimental prose, and books by artists. Penumbra Publishing centers Caribbean, Indigenous, and Southern voices, as well as perspectives from across diasporas.

Founded in 2026 by publisher, writer, and award-winning editor Jasmine Respess. Penumbra Publishing is a full-service publishing house. From editing, design, marketing, publicity, and distribution coordination, we collaborate with authors throughout the book publishing process and beyond. PP publishes emerging and established writers through support from a deep network of editors, designers, distributors, community leaders, artists, organizers, writers, and creators.

Penumbra Publishing is a solution to elitism and the erasure of BIPOC and Southern writing in traditional publishing. Penumbra Publishing strives to uplift the voices of Black, Indigenous, immigrant, disabled, and Queer people, because we are those people. This is our community.
