CARMILLA

Carmilla is the title character of Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu’s 1872 Gothic novella. Under suspicious circumstances, Carmilla comes to stay with Laura and her father in their secluded forest home. Carmilla is a strange, young girl who sleeps most of the day, never comes to prayer, and is often found outside at all hours of the night. Carmilla comes to Laura at night; her desire is both hunger and lust. While Laura is attracted to and disgusted by Carmilla’s sapphic overtures, she eventually rejects her violently. But Carmilla has lived for centuries, so a little heartbreak won’t take her out of the game. So, this succubus is looking for another friend-to-lover arc with a pretty young thing.
